Caja Rural de Canarias, from the island of Gran Canaria, will finally merge with Cajamar and not with Cajasiete, the savings bank of Tenerife. The governing body of Caja Rural de Canarias decided last night this merger with the savings bank of Almería. Thus, we see that a merger of savings banks based in the Canary Islands has not materialized.

It is known that the voting of the board of directors was really tight. Of the dozen board members, half voted for the merger with Cajasiete and the other half voted for the merger with Cajamar. This is how Lucas de Saá Padilla, president of Caja Rural de Canarias used his casting vote to tip the balance in favor of the merger with Cajamar.

As of December 31, the entity had 112,803 clients, of which 24,958 were also members of the Canary Islands entity, whose capital stock amounted to 31.91 million euros. As regards results, the gross margin exceeded 40.75 million euros, 12.57% more than in 2011, and the operating margin increased by 41.01% to 14 million euros.

In addition, computable equity amounted to 88.85 million euros, while equity requirements totaled 60.76 million euros, showing a surplus of 28.09 million over such requirements (46.26% in relative terms).
